WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE HUMAN?
This has a lot of relevance to people that have mastered success. As a leader, where am I going to from here? As a motivator, an inspirer, or an entrepreneur, how has the world changed, and what do I need to embrace to proceed in a way that people are going to really, really grab on to what it is that I have to share?
We all need something that we have understood on a deeper level so that it comes through in what it is that we do, whether it's in your life, or whether it's in your organisation, or with your people, something to guide you through the next chapter. That's what self-respect is.
In many senses, after we've been driven to achieve our success, it can go so fast and we can be so obsessed with the next achievement that we start asking ourselves the question, there must be more, or there must be more to this. It's just a call for whatever you're doing to be richer. It's just a call for however you're proceeding to be deeper in meaning, that you're creating meaning from the things that you do in a different way.
In that, you're looking for something to hold you or something to guide you. That is self-respect.
You know, for something that holds, is the foundation of all of society and the foundation of all business, it's a question that people don't often ask, and that is, am I respecting myself? The other is, how do I respect others? You can see how it fits, particularly in this full circle approach to leadership, for example.
Reclaiming your self-respect is asking yourself the deeper questions which shift and change how you turn up to work tomorrow.
The first question is going to be, how do I perceive equal worth? Do I perceive myself of equal worth as others? In other words, if I see myself as of equal worth as others, then I see others as equal to me.
How would that feel, to turn up to work and be able to see that the effort and the pursuit of others is their attempt or their journey to understanding what it means to be human for them? How would you approach things differently? This is just the beginning of that journey, talking about self-respect. We're going to explore self-respect, we're going to explore conflict, we're going to explore how it can enrich your life and how it can guide you through the next chapter.
